Local support groups

There are a number of sarcoma support groups around the country and new ones starting up all the time. Sarcoma support groups provide valuable support and information to patients, carers and family members, and provide the opportunity to meet informally with other people in the same situation.

Most groups are run by patients and carers working together with local sarcoma clinical nurse specialists or doctors. Groups are usually fairly small and relaxed, and take place in venues such as cancer centres, hospitals, or community halls. The format of the meeting may include a talk from an invited speaker on a related topic, discussion and questions, informal chat with other group members, and refreshments. Some groups may organise social events and activities as well as regular meetings.

Local sarcoma support groups are run independently of Sarcoma UK. Whilst Sarcoma UK provides support and assistance to local groups, including advice on setting up new groups, the charityis not able to take responsibility for their activities, including any representational or campaigning activities they may undertake, information and advice they may give, and any other services they may provide.
